On Friday, June 29th Hoag Orthopedics hosted our 3rd Annual Orthopedic Fellowship Research Day. Over 100 Attendees heard from Distinguished Visiting Professor Dr. Alexander Vaccaro, President of the Rothman Institute on Rothman’s Journey to the Bundle payment plan. In addition to his presentation, each Hoag Orthopedic Fellow, and a guest fellow from Kaiser Permanente, Orange County, presented some of their most interesting cases from their year of training along with the research projects they completed during the year.

Event Description:

We are delighted to have Dr. Alexander Vaccaro, President of the Rothman Institute, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as this year’s Hoag Orthopedics Distinguished Visiting Professor. Join us as our graduating Fellows deliver special case reviews and presentations on their work and research investigations to their peers, attending surgeons, and our guest speaker. Dr. Vaccaro will also deliver a presentation of his own on, “Rothman’s Journey to the Bundle”.

This symposium will be held at Hoag Orthopedic Institute, at 16250 Sand Canyon Avenue, Irvine, Ca 92618, in the Allan and Sandy Fainbarg Community Education Center. Sign in will begin at 6:30am, with breakfast available. The program will conclude at approximately 10:00am.

Orthopedists, anesthesiologists, allied health professionals, nursing staff, medical students, residents, fellows, physical therapists, athletic trainers, research staff, clinical and administrative leaders.

Accreditation

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Increase data and knowledge on baseline physical activity levels in a generalizable cohort of patients.
  2. Compare demographic trends of baseline physical activity to demographic trends of ACL surgery.
  3. Compare Hoag’s experience with quadriceps for ACL reconstruction in younger population to more commonly used autografts.
  4. Appreciate a novel technique for distal biceps repair and case report.
  5. Compare infection rates between different means of sterilization of spinal implants.
  6. Articulate potential cost-related concerns between sterilization means.
  7. Integrate this information to benefit cost-efficiency with regard to spine surgery.
  8. Assess and appreciate the successes and challenges of implementing an enhanced recovery protocol.
  9. Prescribe an appropriate number of narcotics for managing postoperative pain following a total hip and total knee arthroplasty.
