  • On Friday, July 14th, Hoag Orthopedics hosted our virtual 8th Annual Orthopedic Fellowship Research Day lead by Course Director Dr. Robert Grumet of Hoag Orthopedic Institute. Over 40 attendees heard from Distinguished Visiting Dr. Thay Q. Lee, CHIEF Scientist & Director of Research Congress Medical Foundation. Dr Lee delivered an engaging presentation on, “Understanding Rotator Cuff Tear and Repair.” Our graduating fellows gave special case reviews and presentations of their own work and research investigations to their peers, attending surgeons, and our guest speaker.

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Characterize rotator cuff tear and choose appropriate repair strategy.
  2. Identify common perioperative complications in direct anterior THA and interpret the risk factors associated with these complications.
  3. Assess risk factors associated with prosthetic joint infection and differentiate risk profiles in modular versus all polyethylene tibial components.
  4. Connect the links between patients’ pre-operative anxiety and the duration spent in the recovery room.
  5. Critique the potential utility of the Tenex procedure for rotator cuff tendinopathy.
  6. Compare potential advantages and uses for a glenoid inlay component in total shoulder arthroplasty.
  7. Identify which patients in this study population were more likely to require surgical arthrofibrosis release.
  8. Assess the role of radiographs and 3D CT reconstructions in the diagnosis of Femoroacetabular Impingement Syndrome as well as their individual diagnostic accuracy levels comparatively.
