Our Research
The Orthopaedic Education and Research Institute of Southern California
is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was established in 2004 with
a commitment to making new and meaningful discoveries through research
that would benefit the orthopedic community. Doing business as “Hoag
Orthopedics” since 2012, our organization has matured into a comprehensive
orthopedic research organization.
Fellow and Faculty Research
Our Fellow and/or Faculty initiated projects are positioned for success
through a comprehensive and dynamic process of feasibility, scientific
and regulatory review. Once a project has the green light, our expert
team assists in developing the protocol, conducting the trial, analyzing
the data and publishing the results. This cooperative and intellectually
stimulating environment contributes to the scientific knowledge base and
positively impacts the potential for HOI patients to receive a timely
benefit from the results.
As an example of our productivity, in the academic year 2023-2024, we published
24 manuscripts in peer review journals. Our projects range from translational
research (from the lab to bedside), clinical trials and comparative effectiveness
research, to data registry analysis, systematic reviews/meta-analysis
and orthopedic biomechanics.
Sponsored Research
In addition to investigator-initiated studies, our consultative services
for startup or mature drug and device developers include all aspects of
clinical research, from feasibility assessment and protocol development to
site management, clinical trial management and regulatory compliance. In addition, our
faculty investigators are busy practitioners but also world experts in
their fields. Their combination of intellectual curiosity, willingness
to train Fellows, surgical expertise and compassionate care provides the
perfect environment for highly successful clinical research. This stimulating
work has facilitated the development of exciting new products and services
that can benefit the patients in our clinical trials directly but also
help facilitate breakthroughs in healthcare progress throughout the world.
